Trappeto Fish-Farm (Mariculture)
Vacanze
Arcobaleno offers a
special experience for your holidays in Sicily: the chance to visit a
“fish-farm” taking part at the fishing into the installation placed into the
clear and clean sea in front of Trappeto.

The "mariculture" is
that branch of the "acquacoltura" allows to grow up the fish directly
in the natural habitat.
The farm systems are constituted
of floating or submersible cages and they are maded in various tipologies, a few
can resist in the storms better and can be used in protect marine areas, like
bays and fjords, instead the off-shore cages are installed far from the coast.
The submersible system allow the cage immersion until the right depth reducing
the wave impact agains the installation. The most important benefits are the
safety of the building and the fish stress-removal, the removing out of the
nets, of extraneous organisms like kelps.

The farm system
is composed of:
- FACTORY
- OFFSHORE CAGES
The factory is a building where the main operations of work are maded, for a
good result. Inside the building you can find different working-areas: - the
zone where the fish is manufactured and the cashing zone, where the fish is
stored, packaged and iced in particular plastic-boxes, the equipment-warehouse,
the nourishment-store and all the uphold- framework - the veterinaries office
and the administrative and managerial offices.
The off-shore cages system are composed of a net, firmly fastened at an hexagonal
massive structure, with different floataging-levels: one for the normal fishing
actions and one for the upkeeping-actions and maintenance.

In
the higher part there is the food-distribution controlled by a computer, that stock the ideal food-measure
for the fishes, following a settled food-program determined by the number of
fishes into the box, the temperature of waters and the size of the fish. When
forecast expect bad-weather and therefore wavy-sea, the air is removed, by an
electronic system, so the cage goes partially under-water for a good reaction at
the waves.
